Municipalities choose Sustainable CT actions, implement them, and earn points toward certification.

Sustainable CT also provides opportunities for grant funding to help communities promote economic well-being and enhance equity, all while respecting the finite capacity of the natural environment. The program is designed to support all Connecticut municipalities, regardless of size, geography or resources. Sustainable CT empowers municipalities to create high collective impact for current and future residents.

About the Sustainable CT Fellowship Program
By Sustainable CT 02 Feb, 2024
"The Sustainable CT Fellowship Program will place highly qualified fellows across the state’s Councils of Governments (COGs) to help cities and towns become registered, certified, or recertified with Sustainable CT during the summer of 2024. The COGs serve as Connecticut’s regional planning organizations. Fellows will assist cities and towns within the various COG territories and will assist on COG projects that align with Sustainable CT goals. Fellows may or may not be physically sited in a COG office; there may be opportunities for remote or hybrid work locations. Fellows will gain valuable experience working within a professional setting and will be directly engaged with cutting-edge sustainability initiatives, local government operations, and regional coordination and operation. Hear from former Fellows about their summer experience."
The Story Behind Sustainable CT
By Sustainable CT 02 Feb, 2024
Sustainable CT was created by towns, for towns as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Municipal leaders and residents from across the state, the Connecticut Conference of Municipalities and people from key agencies, non-profits and businesses partnered to develop the program during 2016 and 2017. The Institute for Sustainable Energy at Eastern Connecticut State University led and coordinated program development, with generous support from the Emily Hall Tremaine Foundation, Hampshire Foundation, and Common Sense Fund.
